Following hot on the heels of August’s wacky inflatable projects, September began with another funny one. We produced one of the quirkiest inflatables we’ve ever made. A giant helium-filled caricature of the Mayor of London, an inflatable Sadiq Khan!
We don’t look at commissions for bespoke inflatables from a political point of view. We are only interested in whether it is possible to make it to the client’s brief. Will it look like the client’s product or character? And will it work or perform in the way the client wants it to?
In this case, we first looked at the client’s initial drawings. With a bit of input from our in-house designer, we modified the design to have a larger volume of helium. This would give it the buoyancy to float as the client desired. So we made it nearly 9m long. When it was up floating above the London skyline, you weren’t going to miss it!
On Saturday 1st September, we inflated it with helium gas at Parliament Square, London. The inflatable Sadiq Khan was very successful on all counts. The client gained a terrific amount of press and media interest, both in the lead up to launch day and on the flying day itself.
