This was a fun project – to build a giant inflatable octopus for USDAW!
We have created parade inflatables for many of the unions before – including our friends at the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers – which they have used most successfully at their outdoor events. However, this time they wanted something a bit special for their float at the Preston Guild in 2012, an event that only occurs every twenty years.
So this huge green jolly inflatable octopus was made to be the star attraction at the famous Lancashire event. Doesn’t he look great? The octopus was the symbol for the union’s campaign Supporting Parents & Carers. It certainly made the USDAW float unmissable and helped to raise the union’s profile, as activists and officials waved their flags alongside.
